"In the Footsteps of Reed research project is a biography of the English architect Thomas Reed (1817-1878), who performed in the second half of the nineteenth century in Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador, producing a remarkable architecture that impacted not only by volume but by the innovative spatial concepts, stylistic and its proposals for the improvement of construction systems.

The investigation was coordinated by the architect Alberto Saldarriaga Roa, Director of the Corporation Colombian architecture files (AR-CO) and Professor at the School of Architecture, Faculty of Arts, National University of Colombia. This renowned Colombian professional, along with historian Alexander Pinzón, focused on the performance of Reed in Colombia, where he produced notable buildings like the Capitol and the penitentiary in Bogotá, undoubtedly the most significant works of architecture of the nineteenth century Colombian and civil works and private homes as well as the initial professional relationship with Venezuela Reed. National University, through the MA in History and Theory of Art and Architecture, supported the final phase of research in Bogotá.

In Ecuador, with support from the College of Architects of Ecuador province of Pichincha, the architect Alfonso Ortiz Crespo local research developed. Reed's performance in the country was little known, although he lived here 16 years until his death, and made important public works such as the national penitentiary, bridge and tunnel of La Paz, Jambelí bridge, planning the new city of Babahoyo and many other works as well as numerous houses in Quito and other works in the rest of the country. Served as official architect of the Nation in the administrations of President Gabriel García Moreno.
